THE SOUL- A SURREALIST EXPERIMENT

Inspired by Jean-Claude Silbermann- a Surrealist Experiment.......
To retain it's freshness, THE SOUL must remain dry. Sterility gauranteed unless THE SOUL is SHADOW, but you can get all other types of infections by re-using your own SOUL. If you have to re-use damaged or open. (For External Use Only). Please dispose of THE SOUL safely. Fill THE SELF all the way up with SOUL and leave it for a full 2 minutes. THE SOUL should be full strength and not watered down. You can not give THE SOUL to your SELF by re-using your own your SOUL bleach it first. If THE SOUL hurts, pull out!! The selling of SOULS is permitted only in closed packages. Do not remove THE SOUL from THE SELF until moment of use. Do not remove the protective SELF until moment of use. Recent studies have shown that THE SOUL may live outside the body at room temperature for atleast 16 hours, but no longer than 4 days. Never carry THE SOUL in pocket as THE SOUL may ignite and cause burn injuries. All SOULS sold in the U.S. meet the same FDA standards for strength and quality. If you want to lose THE SOUL and are 18 years of age or younger, consult a doctor. Rapid SOUL loss may cause health problems. Slide rubber spatula between THE SELF and THE SHADOW to easily seperate them without tearing. Remove THE SHADOW from THE SELF before intial use. Apply THE SOUL to genital area (vary amount of SOUL to achieve desired lubrication). THE SOUL is extremely slippery-clean spills immediately. Take this SOUL exactly as misdirected. Do not skip rope. When using this Soul see important warnings: avoid contact with eyes in nostrils. Avoid feeding suspect breast. Caution: Federal Law prohibits the transfer of SOULS to any persons other than THE SELF to whom it was divined.

so, i like this a LOT, especially lines like "If THE SOUL hurts, pull out!!" this is pretty hilarious, and also curious... i'm wondering if you got the formula parts all from the same source, or if you just read all the medicine packages you could find and chose the lines you liked.
it gets especially interesting towards the end, with the bits about the 'self' versus the 'shadow.' soul and self are much more familiar concepts, so the reader has to think a little more about how the mysterious 'shadow' fits into it (unless that's some philosophy thing that i'm not well read enough to understand.) and then i love the twist here: "Take this SOUL exactly as misdirected. Do not skip rope."
great job all around; i can't wait to read more from you!

thank you- the formula parts came from different sources, i basically went around and grabbed a box full of pamphlets, household cleaners, pill bottles, bug spray, tampon boxes, whatever and started picking out the lines i liked, and since i believe the soul, the self, and the shadow are all intertwined i included them all, bending the rules of the experiment. the last lines i just did little cut-ups of some more bizzare warnings on prescription drug labels. on the shadow- i very much believe in jung's idea of the shadow self, and shadows and the shadow self is always a presence in different things i write. you should read jung's writing on the shadow self- very interesting, we all have a shadow self, and we can't escape it. also, the author haruki murakami uses shadows in almost all his books, in "hard-boiled wonderland and the end of the world" the main character in order to enter a subconscious town where his memories of his old life are taken from him- they are taken by the gatekeeper who's job it is to cut off the shadow from the person. he then keeps the shadows in like a prison of sorts and without being attached to the self they grow sick and fade, and die- and as this happens the persons memories fade and disappear, it's an amazing book. shadows also figure prominently in his other works as well. i highly recommend reading murakami "kafka on the shore" "the wind-up bird chronicle"...i believe i met my shadow self in a time warp in SF in 1997. he gave me a prophesy. and i'm not crazy or bullshitting you, it's a long story. maybe i'll pull the story from my myspace blog and post it here. thanks for the comment.

I definitely found the tampon references. It's a shame I wait to read the long things. They really don't take so long and are always worth my time. Clever out the frame, and makes you question abstract concepts to boot.
